Felix Müsgens
Head of the Energy Innovation Centre and professor of Energy Economics at the Technical University of BrandenburgProfessor Felix Müsgens manages the Energy Innovation Centre (EIZ) at the Brandenburg University of Technology in Cottbus. The EIC offers groundbreaking research on the transition to clean energy, both at the theoretical and applied level. It contributes to the energy transition at both a global and regional level. Lusatia is a lignite mining area and therefore at the heart of Germany’s coal phase-out. The EIC has 14 professors and supports over 70 researchers at the BTU. The research centre has around 50 partners from the fields of business, politics and science.
Prof Müsgens is also the chair of Energy Economics at the BTU, where his research focuses on the energy market, energy data analytics, and energy system modelling. He has published more than 80 scientific contributions, including numerous peer-reviewed articles in leading academic journals and a textbook titled “Energy Trading and Risk Management”. He collaborates with industrial companies, energy suppliers, associations and ministries on applied and theoretical research projects.
Prof Müsgens is a member of numerous committees (e.g., the Scientific Advisory and Project Advisory Board of 50Hertz) and an associate researcher at the EPRG (University of Cambridge) and is involved in the RWI Research Network. From 2019 to 2021, he served as the elected scientific representative on the Stock Exchange Council of the European Energy Exchange (EEX) Agency. He led the electricity market design working group in the ESYS academy project. Mr Müsgens has a PhD from the Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne and from the DFG Graduate Training Group for Risk Management at the University of Cologne. He has extensive industry experience as head of the Trianel portfolio management team and as founder of the management consulting firm r2b energy consulting GmbH and the subsidiary solarea GmbH, which identifies sites for renewable energy projects and handles approval processes.
